David Hayes has been seeing individuals, couples, and families in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles since 2005. In addition to private practice, David has also had several years experience working at an In-Patient psychiatric clinic here in Los Angeles (PCH Treatment Center) where he treated more severe psychiatric issues, seeing patients four to five times a week in a psychoanalytic model of treatment. He currently is a PhD candidate at LAISPS (Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Study) in training to be a psychoanalyst. David also maintains a private practice, supervises interns, and lectures.
David Hayes has been in interested in healing work since 1997 when he began studying how to work with the body to resolve pain, as well as exploring how emotions were held and often stuck in our physical selves. As this work evolved, he found that there was a natural interest in knowing how thoughts and feelings related to stress in bodies. He gravitated to psychology and in particular, depth psychology, as it valued deeper levels of meaning and understanding beyond just relief of symptoms. From there, his interest grew in psychoanalytic theories in particular because he felt them to be the truest attempts to describe our mind and body experiences while melding scientific and philosophical priniciples to areas that were previously underexplored.
David's early schooling involved significant exposure to Jungian approaches to the psyche, as well as other psychoanalytic theorists following in the footsteps and progressing the theories of Freud and his contemporaries. David's early clinical exposure was a mix of psychoanalytic psychotherapy training in Object Relations theories, while working with adult patients, as well as mother/toddler dyads in individual and group settings. Simultaneously, he worked in integrative medicine centers, at the hospital and clinic level, where traditional and alternative approaches to healing were being used. The early work with the body and with studying infant mental health has been cruicial to David's working with adult patients, allowing him to notice patterns of breath, body, and speech that tell a story of emotions.
